Student of the Month: May 2026 Edition

April is a month of fresh starts, and we’re feeling extra grateful to spotlight this month’s Student of the Month. Their dedication, growth, and creativity have brought new energy to our community—get ready to feel inspired!

Rowan Mortensen

The thrill of excitement that goes through you! This statement was exclaimed with complete enthusiasm as an answer to the question, “What does music mean to you?” I know of no greater introduction than this for our May student of the month, Rowan Mortensen.

Rowan is a drum student who came to the instrument via piano and guitar. When neither of those initial instruments filled him with joy, he shifted over to drums and couldn’t be happier. For him, the drums are the easiest thing ever - all you have to do is hit stuff! He loves learning the different patterns and finds that drumming gives him all of the good feels.

Sharon appreciates having Rowan as her student, particularly enjoying his enthusiasm for the learning process. Says Sharon: “Rowan is excited about learning to play drums! He is eager to learn. Whenever he gets a rhythm or groove, I see his excitement which is the best reaction a teacher can receive!”

Rowan is an adventurous spirit. When he is not drumming, you will most likely find him building model rockets at home. He also takes gymnastics, is learning photography, and enjoys mountain biking. How lucky we are to have him as part of our Rock 101 community!
