Junior SongwriterS
Big ideas. Little legends. Write on!For Ages 7-11
Got a kid who’s always making up melodies, writing silly lyrics, or turning everything into a song?
Junior Songwriters is Rock 101’s weekly songwriting class designed specifically for our youngest creatives.
In this fun, interactive group class, students will explore the building blocks of songwriting in a playful, low-pressure environment. Each week, kids will write their own original songs, collaborate with classmates on group songs, and learn how to turn their ideas into real music. Along the way, they’ll experiment with rhythm, melody, storytelling, and structure, and build confidence sharing their creations with others.

What to expect
Creative Collaboration
Songwriting is better with friends. In Junior Songwriters, students will write their own songs and collaborate as a team to create group songs - sharing ideas, building off each other’s creativity, and learning how bands and writing teams work.
Expert Guidance
This class is led by Adam Hooks, an experienced singer-songwriter and the director of Rock 101’s beloved FreeBirds program. Adam is incredible at helping young musicians feel confident, capable, and inspired - and he knows exactly how to make songwriting feel like play (while still building real skills).
Real Connection
Junior Songwriters isn’t just a class. It’s a weekly creative hang for kids who love music, stories, imagination, and expression. Students build friendships, encourage each other, and learn how to share their ideas in a supportive environment.
Performance Opportunities
Kids will have opportunities to share what they’ve written - whether that’s playing for the class, sharing a group song, or participating in Rock 101 showcase moments when available. The goal is confidence, not pressure.
Fun-Filled Activities
Each week includes interactive songwriting games and creative prompts to help students unlock melodies, lyrics, rhythms, and themes. Expect laughter, experimentation, and lots of “wait… that’s actually a great line!” moments.
