Students of the Month: October 2025 Edition

Our Students of the Month for October both embody the quality of creativity! Budding authors who have written their own books, they have brought a sense of joy and adventure to their one-on-one lessons, and we’re here for it!

Kit Hoogebom

Allow me to introduce an upbeat and hardworking student, Kit. Kit’s musical origin story began when a good friend and talented luthier surprised Kit by crafting a unique bass guitar for him! Not knowing anything about bass guitar, he dove right in and discovered that he loves bass. Kit feels that the bass is the core of any band, and he enjoys keeping the rhythm. Kit is a fan of “old music,” such as Soundgarden. He is always listening to music and claims that he simply cannot live without it. Music keeps him together and on track in his life.

Having Kit as his student makes Jameson very happy. He appreciates Kit’s positive attitude and is amazed at his progress. Jameson said, “Kit is always super positive and a joy to be around. He is thriving as a musician, bassist, and singer. He is a great collaborator and has been a part of the Band League Jr. program. He makes me excited for the future of music!”

Kit is a busy student! He is currently part of a local theater production of Matilda. He loves acting, singing, and all types of performing. He is also a huge reader and has even written his own books. In his downtime, he enjoys art projects, such as drawing and crocheting. When he’s not enjoying his plethora of hobbies, you’ll find Kit diving deep into LGBTQ+ culture as he explores his place in the world.

Keep shining, Kit! We’re happy to be part of your adventures!

Sammy Farnath

Though Sammy has been taking guitar for less than a year, he is not new to the world of music. In addition to the guitar, Sammy has experience with piano, drums, and the recorder. Of all of his musical adventures, the guitar, he says, is by far the most fun. His preferred genre is rock ‘n roll (David Bowie!), and his favorite skill to practice is jamming. While many students feel hesitant to play music without a script, this is where Sammy feels the freest. He can just play without worrying about what is supposed to come next.

Sammy considers music to be his favorite thing. Over the years, he has noticed that he goes through many different phases. A love for music, however, has remained constant. Ezra concurs with this assessment, noting Sammy's musical talent and his ability to pick up new songs quickly. Ezra appreciates how diligently Sammy works and loves jamming with him!

When Sammy isn’t working on his guitar skills, you’ll find him drawing, reading, and listening to music. He has combined his joy for art and reading by writing his own comic books, complete with a superhero named Super Bird.

Keep the creativity flowing, Sammy!
