Students of the Month: November 2025 Edition
November’s Students of the Month are busy! From playing more than one instrument to juggling music lessons and scoring soccer goals, they exhibit the dedication and positive attitude that make us feel proud to know them.
Sophie Curtis
This second grade drum student is on the go! Sophie can often be found playing football with her brother, practicing high level math problems, writing her own books, and playing soccer (four goals scored in the last game!). When it comes down to it, Sophie’s favorite thing in the world is to be creative. She likes to think outside of the box and to make new things.
Though she has been taking drum lessons for less than a year, she is hooked! She loves the challenge of playing the drums. Sophie also enjoys how it requires her entire body to play. She gets to move her arms and feet together to create music.
For Sophie, music is incredible due to the amount of variety that exists. She loves how poems can become the lyrics to songs. She also enjoys the idea that anyone can create their own music. Brandon absolutely loves having Sophie as a student. Says Brandon: “Sophie’s attitude and commitment to drumming is very inspiring. She always brings that good vibe and that ready-for-a-challenge attitude which I think should be carried in all of our day-to-day lives.”
Stay on the move, Sophie! We’ll try to keep up.
Aspen Hurley
Aspen is no stranger to the world of music. Though she has been learning guitar for about 6 months, she has played the piano off and on for about 5 years. In addition, she has been playing percussion in band class this year. So far, her favorite part of her guitar journey is learning how to play songs from the games and shows that she knows. She loves the way the guitar sounds and is having a lot of fun with the learning process.
For Aspen, music is a way to express emotions, both positive and negative. Her favorite genre of music is indie, and she enjoys learning that style on her guitar. Dustin is having a blast as Aspen’s teacher. He has been working with Aspen for almost 6 years, initially on the piano and now for guitar. He loves her persistence in learning guitar techniques and is inspired by how quickly she is learning!
We can’t wait to see what comes next for you, Aspen!
