Student of the Month: August 2025 Edition
As we head back to school, we have two students of the month who earn an A+ for enthusiasm and attitude in the Rock 101 classrooms. Get out those No. 2 pencils and take some notes!
Davie Lueth
This lighthearted and easy-going 15-year-old is an active member of track, cross country, and ice hockey teams. While not particularly competitive, Davie loves the community aspect of these teams. They thrive on being active and on building friendships with their teammates. Davie is also an avid reader, enjoying the genres of sci-fi and graphic novels.
When it comes to guitar, Davie started out by trying to learn on their own. Admittedly, they did not feel this was successful, and they ended up at Rock 101 taking lessons with Ezra. Davie absolutely loves guitar now, feeling it is a very versatile instrument. They have an acoustic and electric guitar and love playing both of them. So far, Davie’s favorite song learned is “Can’t Stop” by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
To Davie, music is incredibly important. They are never not listening to music. Davie finds it to be a universal construct and something that is indispensable in life. Ezra loves Davie’s consistency and commitment to learning. Says Ezra: “Davie is fun to joke around with, and their growth and commitment to the instrument have been so amazing to watch. It’s an absolute pleasure getting to teach them.”
Draco Montoya
Let me introduce you to Draco, the most chill 7th grader around. While his favorite music is heavy metal, he also enjoys cooking and baking as hobbies. His favorite thing to bake is croissants from scratch. We’re talking folding butter in the dough - the whole shebang. While heavy metal and baking may seem contradictory at first, they actually provide an accurate portrait of Draco. He is a 13-year-old who pays attention to detail, is intrigued by learning complicated techniques, and loves a challenge.
Draco has played guitar for several years and has also taught himself some bass guitar as well. He loves guitar because it can be played in any genre of music, not to mention that almost every iconic piece of music involves amazing guitar! He loves playing Metallica and recently tackled Master of Puppets, thoroughly impressing Jay, his instructor.
Much like baking, Draco thinks of music as an artform. Anyone can enjoy it, and it brings people together. Jay enjoys Draco’s enthusiasm and work ethic. Says Jay: “I love teaching Draco because he’s always so excited to learn. His enthusiasm is contagious and I love watching him discover how some of our favorite music works. Proudest moment was watching Draco absolutely shred the solo for Master of Puppets. Very fast and difficult to play accurately. After a few weeks, Draco made it look easy.”
