In a crash course exercise at the beginning of day one, our students get to play on each instrument and choose which one they want to specialize in throughout the one-week program.
Once students have decided on their instrument of choice, they will separate into small groups of like-skilled musicians and receive personalized instruction. Beginner, intermediate, or advanced small groups (1 instructor/ 3-4 rockers).
After several days of instrument specific instruction, the students will form bands with their friends. A music coach will be assigned to each band to help them write their own original and learn a cover song of their choice.
· Recording: Each of the bands will get to record their own original song. During this time, students will also learn the basics of sound production and mixing; knowledge that will enable them to record on their own.
· Lyric Writing: People have a common fear that prevents them from presenting their lyrical ideas to others, or even putting them on paper. We will host a series of activities targeted towards making students comfortable with sharing their ideas.
· Stage Presence: Presentation is just as important as the content. In this workshop, we will pick apart aspects of non-verbal communication to help students enhance their stage performance.
· Stage-Setup: In the world of rock ‘n roll, there are countless things that can go wrong with equipment on stage. With a little bit of knowledge, our students will have a head-start at fixing technical difficulties. In this workshop, they will also learn about lighting and mixing; two integral components of making a great show.
Activity Time & Park Day
People are more productive when they have breaks, and even more so when they have snacks! Every day we take a 30 minute break to eat something nutritious and play games. Given that it's summer time, we feel the need to take it outside every Thursday and play outdoor games as well... water balloons included!
Each session we will host a live performance from locally famous bands that have real experience and success in the music world. After the concert, students will have a chance to ask about the band’s experiences on the road, in the studio, and on stage. For the rest of the day, they will sit in on the students’ band practices and help them move forward through constructive criticism.
